Statement for Filling Her Time with Nothing at All :

I find that I'm in constant dialogue with myself while I'm painting, often thinking about the strangeness of appearance. There is an uncanny distinction between how a person intends to look or feel, and how they actually are perceived. A failed attempt to be happy, comfortable or put together creates a mask that separates the self from another; the subject from the viewer of the painting.

My works develop their own moods, from which my color palette emerges. With no specific endpoint in mind, my source material is merely a suggestion and a starting point. In my process, I think about and react to not just how the painting looks objectively, but how the subject of the portrait might feel.
