Sam Stolte’s work which he calls "narrative figuration" involves unearthing strange stories, many of them from history and many from fiction or myths.
His narratives often have a relationship to the human condition. The historical stories that he finds most significant are the ones that may have been overlooked or forgotten. His process involves including loose associations that might have a vague connection to these stories. Found images fragment, alter, and distort in order to create a simulated collage.
Stolte received his BFA from Texas State University in 2013, and received his MFA from the University of New Orleans in 2017. Stolte has exhibited his works in galleries and shows in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.
